Soldiers and their Families who are arriving to the installation are encouraged to use the Military Housing Office (MHO), a Directorate of Public Works’ service, which assists military personnel and their Families with all their housing needs. The MHO has three branches that encompass all areas of housing: the Housing Services Office for all off post needs, Residential Communities Initiative for on post family housing oversight, and Unaccompanied Personnel Housing (E1-E5) providing oversight for Service Members in the Barracks. The MHO team provides useful tools and information such as current wait times for on post family housing, an up-to-date listing of available homes off the installation, provide housing oversight for all single soldier needs, assisting with resolving landlord/tenant disputes in on and off post housing, temporary lodging, school information, utility waivers and pamphlets. For more information, please call (706) 545-3921.
Fort Moore participates in the Residential Communities Initiative program conducted by the Department of the Army. The Residential Communities Initiative (RCI) is committed in providing Service Members and their Families with the quality housing they deserve and therefore is responsible for policy, prioritization, resourcing and oversight of housing programs and services supporting Soldiers and their Families on the installation.
The Army has chosen a management and development partner, The Michaels' Organization with The Villages at Fort Moore, from the private sector to manage Fort Moore's family housing communities while also renovating and remediating existing on post housing.
Fort Moore is able to provide on-post housing for 30% of its permanent party. As one of the busiest installations in the Army, future growth is increasing with the recent implementation of Infantry One Station Unit Training extension. Turn time for houses has slightly increased due to new requirements. A two-step inspection protocol is also in place to ensure Fort Moore families are in safe homes while residing on the installation.
There are 4,001 family housing units in ten communities. 3,924 located on Fort Moore and 77 units located at Camp Merrill in Dahlonega, Georgia. Home type pictures and floor plans can be viewed on their website.
Living on post has advantages and is currently in high demand. Due to high occupancy and ongoing renovations, Soldiers and Families arriving at Fort Moore should expect extended wait times of up to three months. To set expectations, door-to-door moves are highly unlikely. Service Members will be required to choose one of the housing communities at the time of application and are then placed on the waiting list for on base housing based on their rank, bedroom requirement and communities chosen. Service Members are responsible for keeping the Villages at Fort Moore Leasing Center informed of changes in eligibility status, unit, duty and current phone numbers. Please contact The Villages to get the most up to date wait times specific to the community chosen.
Residing in on base housing is voluntary, not mandatory, except for personnel assigned to key and essential positions, as designated by the installation commander. All Service Members with a family housing requirement are eligible to apply for on base housing.
